3D-Printed Koto Bridges

The solution to attaching piezo sensors to koto bridges was to 3D-print the koto bridges. Designing the bridge was a process. A couple of prototypes were made before the design was finalized in order to meet all these criteria:

3D printed koto bridge prototypes. From above left to right. prototype version 1, 2, 3, and 4

    1. Create the same size as the original bridge
    2. Make the bottom surface smooth so the koto body would not be scratched by the bridges, and
    3. Make the top part where the string rests smooth as well so no extra buzz would be created when the string is plucked.

The koto bridge is designed for the 3D-printer by Martín Vélez, an awesome artist!
